What is Bison Robotics?
The story of this collegiate level robotics team began in 2014 when it was founded by Kacy McCormick and Ryan Swanson, two die-hard FIRST Robotics alum who wanted to see the spirit of high school robotics live on for individuals in the college chapter. Together, they created Bison Robotics at North Dakota State University and recruited 24 members for the club's inaugural year. Since then, Bison Robotics has only continued to grow and expand the realm of its positive impact.
Currently composed of approximately 100 North Dakota State University students, Bison Robotics is an organization that strives to promote and advance student knowledge in the areas of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, professionalism, and leadership. As an organization, Bison Robotics participates year-round in both engineering-based competitions as well as in service-based events; examples of both can be found below. Each of these subcategories of activity varies immensely and allows the organization to have a well-rounded presence in its community and beyond. The main goals of Bison Robotics are outlined with more detail in the club's constitution:
The purpose of this organization shall be to:
A. Provide North Dakota State University students with the opportunity to gain self-confidence, leadership,
communication, organizational, and professional skills
B. Help inspire students of all ages to get involved in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics
C. Aid and support K-12 robotics programs
D. Provide social activities, events, and networking opportunities for the membership and community as a whole
E. Participate as a competitive collegiate robotics team
Bison Robotics hopes to not only meet these basic goals, but to also exceed them through its many endeavors. This college club is like no other and has the potential to really alter the preparedness of individuals as they near entering the work force. Bison Robotics provides a niche for everyone, independent of his or her educational path. Aside from the semi-obvious engineering roles, the club employs talents in business, fundraising, writing, and more in order to run successfully. Everyone is welcome, and we firmly believe that everyone has something to offer that could improve the club. Do not hesitate to get involved today in some way or another! Live long, and robot on.
